Structure Matters

Frequently Asked Questions.

What is a temporary structure?

A temporary structure is a clear span aluminium tent which benefits from having solid wall or reinforced glass panels and a solid wood self levelling ring beam cassette floor system.  All of which offer more stability, security and visual benefits to that of a standard marquee.  Click here to view samples of our work.

How do you fasten/secure your structures?

This will depend on the surface on which the structure is to be erected. If the structure is to be built on grass then we would generally use ground stakes which are secured to a maximum depth of 1200mm. If the structure is erected on a hard standing surface such as concrete or tarmac then we would suggest using either our concrete weighted cassette floor system (designed and manufactured by Structure Matters (UK) Ltd.) or a drilling and rawplug technique. Please note that the client will be responsible for making good the ground when drilling is required.

What is ring beam cassette flooring?

A ring beam frame is used to create the base for the floor cassettes, the aluminium slots together to create a frame which is levelled off using a laser level and our bespoke packing system to hold everything in place. Once completely level the solid wood floor panels (1m x 2.5m each) are laid out and fixed to the frame. This exclusive system means that although there may be undulations in the ground or a substantial height difference from one end of the structure to the other, the internal flooring will be completely level and solid. Are your structures soundproof?

Our structures are more soundproof than most and offer a significant advantage over marquees. Our roof and gable sheets are made of a lead lined PVC-coated polyester fabric, with acrylic varnish on both sides. As a result sound is better contained and is absorbed by the sheets. We do offer additional sound proofing methods should it be necessary.

What are the structures made of?

The frames of our structures are made of solid, hard pressed 4-groove aluminium and hot-dip galvanised steel. The wall components are vacuum-formed cassette panels using specifically formulated PVC sheets which are tested to fire rating BS476. We also provide glass wall panels at an additional cost. These panels are made of aluminium and 6mm reinforced glass. The Losberger wall system comprises of 4 panels per 5m bay and a combination of solid and glass panels can be used in each. How is Structure Matters helping to reduce their carbon footprint?

Wherever possible our rigging teams travel in one vehicle to reduce carbon emissions. We have recently combined our warehouse and head office to again reduce carbon emissions and relinquish unused space. We recycle and reuse all products where possible and have a fortnightly collection in place with a local firm. We no longer print off emails unless absolutely necessary and we receive faxes electronically so that the unnecessary use of paper is limited. In additional we also try to source local subcontractors for jobs when required and we try to make sure that our suppliers have a policy in place to help reduce their carbon footprint. As a result the carpets and linings we use are recyclable.
